"Listening to" your DNA

Here's a bit of DNA trivia. Do you have an autosomal DNA test from Ancestry, 23andMe or Family Tree DNA (Family Finder)? If so, you can play a melody, or several melodies, and download and save them. Judy Russell wrote a blog sometime ago about this here. I was reminded of it today, when Judy posted about the "new" 23andMe and what we will be losing there.

The "new" 23andMe

23andMe has now received FDA approval to resume marketing of its autosomal test for health purposes. It appears its ancestry testing will not change, meaning it will continue to be an alternative to and to Family Finder by Family Tree DNA but now at double the price of those two.

The resumption of health reports is welcome news. You can read more at and at

DNA.Land -- a new pool

I have often spoken of the value of "playing in all the pools" to make best use of DNA testing for genealogy. The testing pools are Ancestry, 23andMe and Family Tree DNA's Family Finder. is another pool but for analysis of test results. This week a new pool was launched: DNA.Land.

Judy Russell, the highly esteemed attorney and genetic genealogist, writes about it in her blog:

I will be uploading my test results today. I hope you will all join me.
