DNA Testing Options - Comparisons

New comparison charts are now available, courtesy of ISOGG (International Society of Genetic Genealogy).

For Y-DNA testing (males only) go to http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Y-DNA_STR_testing_chart.

For deep ancestry testing (beyond traditional genealogy which typically relies on written records and surnames which have been available only in the last thousand years or so), go to http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Y-DNA_SNP_testing_chart. These tests are available to everyone, male or female.

Notice that comparison charts for other types of DNA tests, as well as a wealth of other information, are also available at http://www.isogg.org/wiki/Wiki_Welcome_Page.

DAR to accept Y-DNA evidence

Good news. The DAR will join SAR and the Mayflower Society who already accept DNA as an additional item of proof. Hopefully, they will include DNA lineages for others to match against as well. For details, see http://youngblog.dar.org/dna-evidence-dar-applications-and-supplementals.

I have several lines to Revolutionary War patriots that need this extra boost to qualify for supplemental memberships. We can all dust off our lineage work and see how DNA can help prove those "close but not close enough" ties.
